Trauma therapy for the long, dark nights

IFS, EMDR, and IFS-Informed EMDR for women who are ready for deep, lasting healing that goes deeper than coping.
All within a neurodiversity-affirming approach.
Trauma-informed. Neuro-inclusive. Deep healing. ✦
It’s exhausting to “manage symptoms.” Emptiness. Meaninglessness. Hopelessness.

You’re looking for help that actually gets to the root of what you’re feeling, without pathologizing your brain, experiences, and behaviors.

You might feel profoundly alone, like you never truly belonged. Like you still don’t. And even if you’ve been longing for something different… part of you may be wary of hoping for it.

A guiding light for your dark nights. ✦

You’ve tried therapy before, but it still didn’t… click.

Another set of surface-level coping mechanisms won’t be enough. You need care that helps you navigate the night and helps you find your inner North Star, your way back to your true Self.

You might look like you “have it together” and appear to be “doing well” in life and succeeding on paper, but internally you feel paralyzed.

Maybe you’re stuck in depression and anxiety that keep looping. Maybe your relationships feel like a minefield.

Hypervigilance, shutdown, people-pleasing, overwhelm, numbness, reactivity. These have become your norm.

Maybe you’re neurodivergent (or you suspect that you might be) and past therapy didn’t account for how your brain and nervous system actually work.
And at some point, a quiet fear creeps in:
“What if nothing ever changes?”
“What if I’m the problem?”
“What if I’m too much?
Or not enough?”

Rest assured, you're not broken.

And you certainly don’t need to be “fixed.”

Hi, I'm Carolyn

Trauma-focused therapist with a neuro-inclusive, neuroscience-informed approach.

North Sky Psychotherapy is designed for women who are intelligent, introspective, and willing to do the work, but who haven’t gotten what they needed from therapy that stayed at the surface, overemphasized symptom management, wasn’t specialized enough, or didn’t truly understand neurodivergence.

Here, we make sense of what’s happening underneath your symptoms and use IFS, EMDR, and IFS-Informed EMDR to heal your wounds at the source so you don’t have to rely on “coping strategies” that were never enough.

We’ll journey through the dark nights together, so that you can find your North Star.

A guiding light for your dark nights. ✦

Trauma-informed. Neuro-inclusive. Deep healing. ✦

What I bring:

Tried, true, tested, and trusted techniques for navigating the night (IFS, EMDR, and the Syzygy Institute model of IFS-Informed EMDR).

Deep understanding of the nervous system and the neurobiology of trauma, including how emotions live in the body and how trauma shapes patterns of physiology, emotion, thought, and behavior.

Extensive experience as both client and therapist, plus a willingness to talk about it when it’s helpful to you.

Ongoing dedication to continued professional development and personal growth. I’m not “done” growing, and I don’t expect you to be either.

What I’m like:

Compassionate presence and deep, authentic caring.

A steady capacity for calm in the face of big feelings.

Consistent and patient support that perseveres without rushing your process.

Gentle, nonjudgmental curiosity, with pacing that honors the need to move at the speed of trust.

An ability to reflect your experience back to you in a way that helps you gain perspective and understand yourself deeply.

Candor and openness so you feel less alone in what you’re carrying.

Many therapists claim they’re trauma-informed. But few actually specialize in trauma treatment. And even fewer understand the intersection of trauma and neurodivergence.

North Sky's unique approach:

My work combines IFS and EMDR, grounded in psychodynamic depth and neuroscience. We work with your consent, at the speed of trust, so you build capacity without feeling flooded or overwhelmed.

IFS
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that helps you understand your inner world as made up of different “parts.” Each has its own feelings, beliefs, and roles, with many parts serving protective functions. You heal old wounds as you reconnect with your core Self, the part of you characterized by calmness, curiosity, compassion, confidence, courage, clarity, creativity, and connectedness.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess trauma memories so they no longer trigger the same emotional or physical activation. Through bilateral stimulation (e.g., eye movements or tapping), EMDR allows stuck memories to integrate and lose their power over you.
IFS-Informed EMDR
(Syzygy Institute Model)

The Syzygy Institute model of IFS-Informed EMDR combines the strengths of both approaches, using EMDR’s powerful reprocessing techniques while honoring parts’ protective roles and resourcing your inner capacity for healing. This integration respects your internal system, gently neutralizing the charge of traumatic memories, and allowing for deeper, smoother healing.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Care
Recognizes that brains and nervous systems work differently, not defectively. Instead of trying to “fix” you, my approach honors how your brain and nervous system are naturally wired, adapting therapy to work with your unique neurobiology rather than against it. Neurodivergence comes with real challenges in a world with neurotypical privilege. With my own lived experience, I’m committed to destigmatizing it and helping you in a way that fits you.
Psychodynamic Depth

Psychodynamic therapy explores the deeper patterns, unconscious processes, and early experiences and relationships that shape how you understand and experience yourself, others, and the world. We need to understand the “why” beneath your struggles and treat the underlying causes, not just manage their symptoms.

Neuroscience-Informed

Therapy grounded in how your brain and nervous system actually work. Understanding trauma’s impact on your body, how your nervous system responds to threat, and what’s needed for genuine healing. This shapes every intervention to shift out of automatic survival strategies that are no longer needed, but which your nervous system is unable to “turn off” because it doesn’t recognize that things have changed.

In our work, we prioritize presence, patience, persistence, perspective, and playfulness.
Because deep healing is real work. And it’s also deeply human.

What North Sky can help you with.

Clients often come when they feel...

Stuck in depression, anxiety, shutdown, burnout, or overwhelm.

Trapped in repeated relationship patterns (people-pleasing, conflict avoidance, hypervigilance, emotional flooding, emotional numbness).
Like they’re just going through the motions and disconnected from what they want.
Like their nervous system is always “on.” Or just shuts down and collapses.

Deeply tired of therapy that feels overly intellectual, generic, or not tailored to them.

Trauma-focused therapy for deep and lasting change.

North Sky’s therapy is designed to help you:

You can expect an approach that is direct, warm, grounded, and honest.

North Sky is here for you if:

You want trauma therapy that goes deeper than symptoms management.

You’ve tried therapy before, but found it too surface-level.

You’re neurodivergent (or suspect you might be), and want a therapist who actually gets it.

You want to stop feeling stuck, be less reactive, less shut down, and more like yourself.

And if you’re skeptical? That’s welcome too.

Not "fixed."
Never "perfect."
Always real.

North Sky clients experience…

Greater self-compassion.

More internal steadiness.

Less shame, deeper self-understanding.

Increased clarity about what they truly want in life.

More choice, instead of automatic trauma responses.

A calm sense of coming back to their true Selves.
Fully, and unapologetically.
